Gold-plated jewellery offers the luxurious look of solid gold at a fraction of the price — but it does require a little extra care to keep it looking radiant. At VÉRA, all our pieces are crafted in 18k gold-plated brass and finished to the highest standard. With the right habits, your VÉRA jewellery will maintain its warm glow for years to come.
Understanding Gold-Plating
Gold-plated jewellery is made by applying a thin layer of real gold — in our case, 18k — over a base metal (brass, in VÉRA's case). The thickness of the plating determines how long the finish lasts. Our pieces use a thicker plating layer than most fashion jewellery, giving you a more durable, long-lasting shine.
The Golden Rules of Care
1
Keep It Dry
Water is the number-one enemy of gold plating. Always remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, or washing your hands. Even humidity can dull the finish over time.
2
Avoid Chemicals
Perfume, hairspray, body lotion, and cleaning products contain chemicals that break down the plating. Apply your VÉRA pieces last — after all sprays and lotions have dried.
3
Store It Properly
Store each piece individually in the jewellery pouch included with your order, or in a fabric-lined jewellery box. Keep pieces separated to prevent scratching.
4
Clean Gently
If your piece needs a refresh, use a soft, dry cloth to gently polish the surface. Avoid abrasive cloths, jewellery dips, or ultrasonic cleaners, which can strip the plating.
Signs Your Jewellery Needs Extra Attention
Over time, you may notice slight colour changes in areas that experience the most friction — clasps, inner bangles, or post settings. This is perfectly normal with gold plating. A light polish with a microfibre cloth can restore shine. If the base metal is showing through, it may be time to re-plate your piece — contact us at hello@verajewellery.com and we'd be happy to advise.
How to Clean Your CZ Stones
Our pieces feature AAA Grade cubic zirconia stones, which mimic the brilliance of diamonds. To clean: dampen a soft cloth with warm water only, gently wipe the stone surface, then pat dry immediately. Never soak CZ stones in water or cleaning solution, as moisture can loosen the settings over time.
Daily Wear Tips
Put jewellery on last when getting ready
Remove jewellery before exercising or sleeping
Take pieces off before applying sunscreen or swimming
Rotate your pieces to reduce wear on any single item
Give your jewellery a gentle polish after each wear
With just a little care and attention, your VÉRA pieces will remain as beautiful as the day they arrived. Our jewellery is designed to be worn every day — and with the right habits, it will be a part of your routine for years to come.
